– Collectivisation of survivors into peer support and empowerment groups initiated

– Utthan, a pioneering survivors leaders collective formed
– Utthan engages with MWCD on the TIP Bill
– Sanyukt, a tech-based case management system launched
– The West Bengal State Rehabilitation Policy for Recovery and Reintegration of Survivors of human trafficking drafted

– Focused programming and campaigning on community-based rehabilitation (CBR) (Shakti) strengthened in West Bengal
– Uttar, an app-based monitoring, tracking and feedback system by survivors launched
– Leadership Next, a survivors’ leadership programme launched

– National research and amplification of gaps regarding access to victim compensation by survivors strengthened
– National research on the status of AHTUs initiated, placing Sanjog in the formation of ILFAT
– Sanjog wins the Thomson Reuters Global Award for Policy Impact
– Collectivisation and mentoring of SAANS, a labour trafficking collective in Chattisgarh initiated

Meet the Team
Uma Chatterjee
Executive Director (Founding Member)
Uma is a passionate psychosocial trainer, social entrepreneur and a skilled researcher, engaged in conceiving, designing and implementing innovative Leadership & Empowerment programmes with youth and adults. She enjoys developing and implementing diverse innovative training and research tools in the contexts, partnerships and communities where she works. Uma also has the knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to design modules on gender and sexuality, edutainment communication aids and resource materials.
Roop Sen
Secretary and Technical Advisor (Founding Member)
Roop is a versatile professional with expertise in research, coaching, facilitation, and activism. His work spans the social sector, collaborating with organizations of all sizes. Roop also delves into behavioral sciences, coaching individuals and groups. As a founding member of Sanjog and a managing partner at Changemantras, Roop contributes to leadership development and organizational growth. His creative pursuits include documentary films, animation, and writing.
Arpita Nath
Programme Coordinator – Psychosocial Support
Arpita is a trained mental health professional with more than 10 years of experience in the social impact sector. As an expert in Case Management technology for sex workers and survivors of trafficking, Arpita is currently looking at experimenting with community therapy systems and addressing the mental health rights of other marginalised communities. She works closely with grassroots organisations to build their capacities in addressing mental health needs and the rights of survivors of trafficking and sex workers.
Arpita is also a proud mother of a toddler, a passionate traveller and a home chef. She dreams of exploring every country in the world someday and trying varied cuisines.
Chiradip Palit
Finance & Admin Officer
Chiradip is an accounts and finance professional with more than 14 years of working experience across private and NGO sectors. He is a commerce graduate and a good listener with a willingness to offer support to individuals and colleagues in need.
Chiradip is a cricket fanatic and movie and music lover.
Madhurima Sanyal
Project Coordinator – Tafteesh
Madhurima is a development professional with a special interest in researching and writing about gender issues and their impact on the lives of those affected. She holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work and Gender and Development from India and the UK. She has experience working in the social impact sector for 3 years. Madhurima loves to read, travel and explore new cuisines, in her personal life.
Nisha Mehroon
Director – Access to Justice
Nisha Mehroon is a sociologist and researcher, and she specialises in the study of marginalised populations’ access to entitlements and justice from the criminal justice system in India. She has more than a decade of experience in strengthening access to justice systems, mentoring and motivating survivors’ groups, convergence building amongst large teams of multi-sector stakeholders and meaningful partnership management.
Nityananda Ghosh
Office Assistant
Nityananda is a responsible individual dedicated to upholding a positive attitude and cultivating strong relationships. He plays a pivotal role as the primary technical support and a valued member of the event organizing committee. Committed to excellence, Nityananda continuously strives to enhance the quality of my work.
Panchali Kar
Programme Manager- Leadership Next
Panchali is a Queer-Feminist, IT Analyst, and Programme Manager with expertise in Leadership Interventions. Alongside her roles, she serves as a trainer, engaging in theater practice, and advocating as a rights activist and writer. Her passion lies in fostering positive change and advancing social justice causes. Through her multifaceted endeavors, Panchali aims to challenge norms, empower individuals, and contribute to creating a more equitable and inclusive society.
Sampriti Mukherjee
Programme Coordinator for Leadership Next
Sampriti is an intersectional feminist who is passionate about challenging the current
oppressive systems, by exploring possibilities of transformative change. She has 6+ years of experience in co-building public education and action research in the social development sector.
At Sanjog India, Sampriti currently coordinates the Survivors’ Leadership Programme and is an integral part of visioning youth leadership development in the sector.
Sara Khan
Coordinator- Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment
With 7+ years of experience, Sara has previously worked on Gender Rights and Economic Empowerment at organisations like Pratham and Rang De. She holds a Master’s Degree in Sociology from Columbia University.
At Sanjog, Sara oversees the Economic Empowerment Program and hopes to co-create sustainable and replicable solutions at the community level with survivors and other marginalised groups. When not working, Sara can be found at a local café or planning her next trip.
Soumitra Dutta
Finance and Admin Manager
Soumitra is an accounting and finance professional with experience of over 22 years in the social development sector and healthcare industries. At Sanjog, Soumitra manages the Finance and Compliance portfolio.
Tamali Ghosh
Assistant Manager – Finance, Compliance and Admin
Tamali is a finance and administration professional with over 8 years of experience in the social development sector. Her core professional expertise includes accounts and compliance management, logistics and office administration management.
In her free time, Tamali is a passionate classical dancer. She is also a keen learner and loves to travel to new and unknown destinations.
Veronica Sutapa Gomes
Director – Rehabilitation and Economic Empowerment
Veronica is a management professional and comes with over a decade of experience in working with marginalised communities across the Eastern and Southern coasts of India. Veronica specialises in designing, monitoring and evaluating community-based interventions. She values partnerships and believes in teamwork and collaboration.
Sreetama Sarkar
MEL Manager
With 15 years of experience, Sreetama is dedicated to the cause of the development sector, particularly empowering communities through sustainable initiatives. From grassroots projects to strategic leadership, she has championed positive change. Passionate about fostering growth, Sreetama’s expertise merges technical knowledge with a profound empathy for those she serves.
Suphal Chandra Mandal
Finance Associate
Suphal has close to 3 decades of experience in the field of finance across the development sector. He has worked across social activities such as WASH, Education, Health, Livelihoods, Social Forestry, Child Labour, and more. In the role of Finance Associate with Sanjog, this is Suphal’s first time working with AHTUs. At Sanjog, he is committed to his responsibility of enhancing financial control and management.
